Today is the birthday of the world's oldest man, Tomoji Tanabe. Tanabe lives in Miyazaki, Japan is celebrating his 112th birthday. Tomoji Tanabe celebrated his birthday with a breakfast of rice, miso soup and seaweed. Greg Oden’s Rookie Season Has Ended
Every once in a while we get off topic and write about stories that have gained popularity. Today we have learned that Greg Oden, an NBA player who was the first pick of the 2007 NBA draft, will most likely miss his entire rookie season due to an operation on his knee. Doctors operating on Oden noticed that he was in need of microfracture surgery, which will probably sideline Oden for his entire rookie season.
Oden, who decided to come to the NBA after playing one year of college basketball at Ohio University is regarded as one of the best centers to be drafted in a very long time. His knee injury is actually was his second health related issue of the summer. Oden had a tonsillectomy in July after struggling in two of the Blazers' Las Vegas summer league games. The recovery time for his latest surgery is believed to last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. Oden is the second player in the history of the NBA draft to be selected number one overall and not play in the year of his selection. The other player to do this was David Robinson in 1987 who instead of playing for the San Antonio Spurs, Robinson honored his commitment with the United States Navy. The injury to Oden will surely impact the performance of the Blazers this upcoming season, people all over the world were expecting Greg Oden to make an immediate impact once he entered the NBA.
