What's the best way to decide on a toolbox? One could
experiment with numerous trial versions and demos until they find
something they are comfortable with. One could take the advice of
some average Joe Blow. Or one could find out what someone else in
a similar position uses. We think the latter is the easiest and the
most reliable.
Reviews in popular publications and web sites are usually
too focused on the improvements over old versions or the competition,
and rarely outline how the features can benefit the readers workflow.
In hopes of providing exactly that kind of background for those who
are looking in vain for it; we asked our staff and contributors to
write a little something about the software they use most in their
job, and to describe how and why they use it.
The commented software is listed in order of most frequently
used to least frequently used. The articles are listed by the occupation
of the author. For those of you who are wondering what software might
help you get the job done right, we hope this will help.
