Tutorial: Zero Sen
Article by Don

LiveMotion, Adobe's entry into the Web
multimedia market, lacks the maturity of Flash 5, but considering it is only a
newborn at version 1.0 it is still a very capable program. In this tutorial, I
will demonstrate a few of those capabilities, including animated masking, text
animation, and rollover effects. My tutorial will revolve around an interactive
Flash file providing information about the Zero-Sen, Japan's premiere fighter
plane of WWII. After collecting photos and info on the plane, I laid out a very
simple storyboard.
Step 1
The first step was to input my 'Composition
Settings.'
Step 2
I wanted a gray grid background. I created
the image (15 px square) in Photoshop, imported it into my 'Texture' palette and
then dragged it onto my canvas. I then added a large red circle to the middle
of the canvas. Representative of the Rising Sun, when a visitor presses it the
text 'Zero-Sen' will slide through the mask into the center of the sun and then
the text will break apart and shoot up separately to the top of the canvas. The
red circle will then scale down and fade out as a side profile of the famous fighter
fades in.
