This
is the easiest way I know how of in creating a metallic gold text style. This
tutorial will include the use of:
- the text tool,
- the feathering
function,
- the hot wax coating function,
- adjusting red/green/blue
and
- the add drop shadow function.
Here is an example of the final
image.

Step
1:
Create a new image with white as your background color set to 16
million colors. Enter some text using which is light gray in color:
- Red:
192
- Green: 192
- Blue: 192
Keep the text selected throughout
the entire tutorial. Now click "selections - feather". Enter 3 into the number
of pixels field. This should expand the selected area.

Step
2:
Now select white as your foreground color and give the text a hot
wax coating by selecting "image - other - hot wax coating". Your image should
look like this.

Step
3:
Now you have to add some color In this example, I used the "colors
- adjust - red/green/blue" function with these values:
- Red: 100%
- Green: 50%
- Blue: 0%
I did this twice to get a more realistic gold
color.

Step
4:
The last step is to add a drop shadow for a 3D effect. Click "image
- add drop shadow" with the following options:
- Color: black
- Opacity:
100
- Blur: 10
- Vertical Offset: 4
- Horizontal Offset: 4
This is the final image.

Play
around with the colors for different effects. This method can also be applied
to shapes like hearts for example.
