Chit
Chat in a Flash
You can now build a multiuser chat application in minutes
with Director's Multiuser Server 2. Although limited to 1000 users, you can quickly
create chat rooms, whiteboards, conferencing and multi user games. I can see this
being a very popular program.
Millions and Millions
With over 137 million users + around the world, the Shockwave player is second
only to the Flash Player for the viewing of multimedia files on the Internet.
The Shockwave player can also be distributed on CD-ROMS royalty free.
Final
Thoughts
Macromedia continues to improve Director with every release.
It seems a bit faster and more stable. The new 'Property Inspector,' more Lingo
commands, tight integration with Fireworks, and other enhancements make this an
upgrade worth having. The only downside is you can not buy Director separately.
If you already have Fireworks or Photoshop, or an audio editing program, why should
you have to pay for programs you don't need. But if you want to build powerful
multimedia applications for the Internet or on deliverable media Director 8 Shockwave
Studio is your best bet.
