Paul Heslep

Paul Heslep is 29 (and would like to keep it that way).
His talent as a graphic artist is now, and probably always will be grossly
unappreciated by his boss, himself, and especially by his audience.
Paul has a strong dislike for all things standardized, and appreciates
clients who prefer to not look at the work until after they have paid.
A rabid Mac enthusiast, who somehow manages to tolerate the closed minded
Win user mindset, Paul is often quoted as saying "Linux will kill us
all!" Feel free to critique the "art" he produces, but please, do so
in private and be careful not to let others overhear your disapproval.
Besides being a designer, Paul is an incurable geek, who
spouts technical facts endlessly to his mostly uninterested friends.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with rumor pages you are cordially
invited to indulge in his favorite hobby by reading www.macnn.com, www.appleinsider.com,
and www.macosrumors.com. If you are technically inclined, you will probably
be surprised to find that contrary to the names of these sites, the
news gathered on these pages will appeal to those in the windows and
especially Linux communities.
Paul is the proud owner of a 400mhz Yosemite Macintosh,
and looks forward to the day when he will undoubtedly skip payment of
all his monthly bills in order to purchase a shiny new Sawtooth (G4),
iBook, and Lombard Power Book. (not necessarily in that order). Don't
bother asking what kind of machine he would reccomend for you to buy,
I'm sure you can imagine the overempassioned speech this question might
spawn, besides, you probably don't want a 2 meg text file in your e-mail
outlining the virtues of Apple computers.
Unlike most frothing Mac users, Paul will, on occasion
use Windows and will only curse about it to a minor degree. Microsoft
is of course, the mortal enemy of the designer, and Paul would storngly
insist that aspiring designers please steer will clear of anything with
the MS moniker. Please, please, please, for gods sake and your own use
Adobe and Macromedia products!
Paul is the owner of three ferrets (please don't form
a stereotypical view of him because of this), one extremely broken car,
several thousand dollars of debt, and far more equipment than one geek
could possibly use. If there was one message he would like you to take
away from this article and keep with you always, it would be "No god
dammit, Microsoft is not about to buy Apple!."
A Capital Investment
Putting up good work has its costs. Paul Heslep talks about the expense
of being a web designer. How much do you want to pay for your toolbox?
A Look at HTML
Optimizers
Small files are essential if you wish to keep your audience. We look
at a couple of code and image crunching programs and find that there
is a cost for savings.
