Keyword targeted advertising can be used with banner
impressions or text links to target your prospects directly.
Keyword Targeted Banner Impression Advertising
Most major sites, especially search engines, such as Yahoo, Altavista
and Excite, offer banner advertising with targeting by keywords. So,
you can state that your banner will only be displayed, if the visitor
performs a search with one or more keywords from the list that you
specify.
The downside is that you will be charged a premium
for this service --sometimes as much as twice the standard non-targeted
CPM rate. But, it should produce a better click-through rate, as a
result.
Keyword Targeted Text Link Advertising
This is similar to banner keyword targeted advertising, except your
text link and description is displayed, instead of a banner.
There are 2 forms of keyword targeted advertising:
1 - Your text link is guaranteed a top position when
a visitor performs a search with one or more keywords from the list
that you specify.
2 - The second method also means your text link is
displayed, when a visitor performs a search with one or more keywords
from the list that you specify. The difference is that your text link
is ranked by the amount you bid for the keyword/s.
You can see an example of this at the most popular
keyword targeted text link search engine on the Internet, Goto.com.
Enter in any search and take a look at the list of text links returned.
Notice the "Cost to advertiser: $0.40" text next to the web address
of each link. This is the amount that each advertiser has bid and
it's what it will cost them when someone clicks on their link. If
their link isn't clicked, the advertiser is not charged.
Keyword Targeted Advertising At Major Search Engines
Most, if not all of the major search engines offer targeted keyword
banner or text link advertising. Top search engines include Altavista,
Excite, HotBot,
InfoSeek, LookSmart,
Lycos, and Yahoo.
GoTo.com
Those of you who have followed my development know this is my favorite
place to advertise on the net.
I have a few hundred keywords that I bid for in Goto.com.
Most of my bids are only 1 cent each, but a few are a couple of cents
more. Compared to Cost Per Click rates of 10-25 cents, that you would
pay with most advertising networks, this is an absolute bargain.
Goto.com have been absolutely terrific with the amount
of traffic they have sent me, ever since I started advertising with
Goto.com at the end of last year, they have sent me 66,941 visitors
at a cost of US$669.70. That works at just over 1 cent for each visitor.
Let's assume I had used banner impressions to generate
this many click-throughs. At a click-through rate of 1%, which is
the industry average, I would need to have purchased 6,694,100 banner
impressions. For $669.70, I would need to have found an advertiser
willing to offering me a rate of just under $0.10 CPM. And where can
you get banner impressions that cheap? No where!
The lowest I have heard of is $1 CPM, which you won't
easily find. So that is one tenth the cost of the lowest rate you
are likely to find for traditional banner advertising.
ClickSales.com
Get over 600,000 impressions per day and only pay for clicks, at 25
cents each. Your link is displayed at the side of the page. This site
is a search engine targeting a general audience.
