I have noticed
something quite disturbing with directory submissions I have been receiving. My
submission page is designed so that other submission services can submit Web site
to me for approval. I have found that over 95% of the submissions just aren't
being submitted properly. The main problem is that they all seem to request the
same sub-category, "Ecommerce Tools / Non-U.S. Accounts", which few Web sites
fit under. This suggests that the submission services simply don't take it into
account at all. Also an email address is not provided, even though I specifically
state that it is required.
This just goes to prove that these
automatically site submission services simply don't work. The problem is not that
directory editors like myself don't want to accept more sites, but if the requests
form cannot even be completed properly, the requests will simply be ignored. I
get over 1,000 submissions a week and I can't go through each request trying to
work out which sub-category they should be listing under.
Some
of these requests even come from other web marketing and paid-for submission sites!
These marketing sites obviously don't know much about web marketing. And those
submission sites who can't even submit their own listings properly, surely can't
do a proper job for their paying clients. Take this one for example:
"Title: Web site Promotion on 900 Search Engines.
Sub-category: Ecommerce
Tools / Non-U.S. Accounts)
Description: Web site hosting Plus Web site promotion
on over 900 search engines. Internet Web sites have been proven to be the most
effective way to reach your customers."
They claim to submit
your site to 900 search engines! How many? I'm sure they really mean "90".
And the statement, "Internet Web sites have been proven to be the most effective
way to reach your customers," is simply ridiculous. Dah, really!
The fact is that there simply aren't that many search engines. Even if there were,
a lot of them would have certain conditions, such as accepting sites that have
a certain country domain extension, or content relating to that country, or even
be in their native language. All this means that your site has no chance of being
accepted at all in most of these so-called search engines they submit your site
to. Also, I would suspect that the majority of the sites are simply free-for-all
pages, which are definitely not search engines and mostly a waste of time.
As far as I am concerned, these submission sites are simply ripping you off. I
for one wouldn't recommend any of them, but if you must use one, make sure that
you watch the submissions being sent in real-time and the search engine sites
show a confirmation page. Some of these site submission services send you an email
of sites that they have submitted to, which is simply not good enough. Anyone
can take your money and send you a list of sites they may or may not have submitted
your site to.
The only paid-for submission service I have used
was the "Submit-It" one. But that was when I first started on the net and didn't
really know much about web marketing. At least most of their submissions weren't
automatic. With the majority of sites, you still have to visit them to confirm
your details. This is the process that my Free-Submit 300+ works. It may sound
like hard work having to visit 300 sites, but I think I have made the whole process
as simple and painless as possible. And you know for sure that your request has
been submitted properly. Once your site has been accepted into a directory, you
shouldn't have to resubmit your request again, so it's not like you have to do
it all over again every month.
If you are serious about marketing
your Web site properly, I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to
submit your site properly. If you try to duck out of the work required, then don't
be surprised that your promotional efforts don't produce any results.
Do yourself a favor. Stop throwing your hard earned money away and use my Free-Submit
300+ service.
