After months
of frustration, I have finally made it into the Yahoo directory! I initially submitted
my site in the beginning of November, last year. It has taken over 3 months to
get accepted. It has been a long hard struggle and to say I am delighted is an
understatement.
We all know that Yahoo is the #1 search engine,
or rather web directory on the net. A listing in Yahoo can do wonders for your
traffic. Not that I have done too badly without the help of the search engines.
I will let you know next month, if the promise of an influx of visitors does occur
as a result of the listing.
For those of you who haven't had
any luck so far, don't give up yet! Here are a couple of tips you could try.
Did you know that Yahoo have a listing email support address for those of you
having problems getting listed in the directory or getting change requests processed?
Send a polite note with the exact URL you submitted to this address:
URL-support@yahoo-inc.com
They recommend that you only write to them if you have made at least 2 submissions,
several weeks apart, via their online form. Only then should you submit your query
to their support address. I suggest you follow their rules, otherwise it might
do more damage than good.
I wrote to them on the 28 January and
on the 19 February, they wrote to me to inform me they have accepted my Web site.

Subject: Can't get listed! Help! (www.eboz.com)
Hi Support,
I have submitted my Web site. to
your US directory, twice since November of last year and I still can't get listed
in your directory. My Web site. address is: <http://www.eboz.com>
I understand you are very busy and you may have accidentally overlooked my submission.
My second submission was at least 6 weeks after my first submission and I do have
a quality Web site. I have received many compliments from various sources and
received a cool Web site. award.
Please would you consider my
Web site. for inclusion in your directory. If I need to resubmit my Web site.
again, please let me know and I will duly oblige. Please note that I have just
resubmitted to the UK version of your directory a couple of days ago, as I am
based in the UK. I am not sure if this has any effect on my listing in your US
version.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to
contact me. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
With regards,
Michael Wong.

If you are having problems getting change requests processed,
you can call either email them at the above address, with your URL and the EXACT
date when you made the change request. Or you can also contact them on this support
number:
(001)-408-731-3300
When you hear the
answer phone message, press "option 2" for "Other".
Then press "option 3"
for "Yahoo online, user support and customer care".
Then press "option 2"
for "Web site listings on Yahoo.com".
Then press "option 2" for "Changes to
existing online listing.".
Leave a short polite message about
the nature of your request, along with name, phone number, email address, your
URL and the EXACT date when you made the change request.
Please
note that they will only consider your change request, if your listing is incorrect
or one of their editors deem your request to be appropriate. I wouldn't recommend
sending in requests for minor changes to your descriptions.
In
fact my site is listed under 2 categories, totally different to the two I suggested.
Not ideal, but considering how hard it was to get listed in the first place, I
think I will wait to see what kind of response I get to the current listings.
If they don't attract too many visitors, I might consider writing to them to get
the listings moved to the categories I originally asked for.
Good luck!
